India renews warning over fake e-visa websites ahead of peak booking season
The Indian government continues to flag fraudulent e-visa websites that mimic the official portals and overcharge applicants or harvest passport data, urging travelers to use only indianvisaonline.gov.in, indianvisa.gov.in, or authorized agents like VFS Global and BLS International.
Official e-Tourist visa fees for most nationalities run roughly $25–80 depending on validity and nationality; paper tourist visa stickers via VFS/BLS run about $40–160 including service fees. Any site charging well above these ranges, appearing as a sponsored search ad, or using a slightly misspelled domain should be treated as suspicious. If you've already submitted passport details or payment to a fake site, contact your passport-issuing authority, watch for unauthorized account activity, and report the site to your national cyber-fraud reporting channel (e.g. IC3 in the US, Action Fraud in the UK) as well as India's cybercrime.gov.in.
