Indonesia drug trafficking warning: death penalty enforced

Indonesia maintains and enforces the death penalty for drug trafficking. Multiple foreigners are currently on death row. This is not a theoretical risk.

Indonesia is among the strictest countries in the world for drug offenses. For trafficking: mandatory death penalty. For personal use: 4-12 years imprisonment. Critically: Never accept packages from strangers at any point during your journey to Indonesia. Airport drug dogs are trained and thorough. The Bali Nine case (Australian nationals executed in 2015) is the most famous example. If offered drugs, firmly decline and remove yourself from the situation immediately. Even small amounts can be classified as trafficking depending on type. There is no "tourist exception."
