Thailand reduces visa-free stay from 60 to 30 days (May 2026)

Effective May 19, 2026, most Western passport holders now receive 30 days visa-free instead of 60. The change applies to air arrivals. Land border stays were already capped at 30 days.

The Thai Cabinet approved the reduction to address concerns about long-stay visitors living on continuous visa exemptions. Immigration now uses a computerized system tracking total days per year. Visitors who have spent 5+ months in Thailand over the past year may receive a "High Frequency" alert and could be denied entry. The Tourist Visa (TR) or new Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) are alternatives for longer stays. One 30-day extension is still available at immigration offices for 1,900 THB.
