Singapore joins global coalition warning of AI-powered travel booking scams

Singapore Police Force has joined authorities in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, India and several European countries in a coordinated warning about fake accommodation listings, counterfeit airline tickets, and AI-generated impersonation scams targeting travelers.

The warnings highlight fraudsters copying genuine hotel listings at unusually low prices, phishing messages impersonating airlines or booking platforms, fake travel insurance, QR-code payment scams, and AI voice-cloning used to pressure victims into fast payments. Singapore's 24/7 ScamShield Helpline (1799) is available for on-the-spot verification of suspicious messages or offers. General advice echoed across all participating countries: book only through established travel agencies or well-known platforms, verify hotel listings independently before paying, and be suspicious of any request for urgent payment via messaging apps.
